The number 3
Have you ever noticed the importance of the number 3 during the Easter period?
As Easter approaches, and the narrative unfolds, Jesus went alone to pray in the garden of Gethsemane 3 times, returning between times to see his Disciples. Then Peter distances himself from Jesus, denying that he knows him 3 times before the cock crowed.
During his trial, Jesus says He will tear down the temple and rebuild it in 3 days, a reference to the 3 days between Jesus’ death and resurrection. The most used picture of Easter is, as here, that of the 3 crosses on the Hill of Golgotha where he died at 3pm before his resurrection 3 days later.
However, the greatest, most amazing 3 in the Bible is that of the Trinity; God as Father, Son and Spirit. The Bible records how the Son talked to his Father in those last days on Earth, and the Spirit was more accessible to us at Pentecost after Jesus had left the Earth, having paid the ultimate sacrifice.
Let us remember at this time how amazing the Trinity is, what was accomplished at Easter and the relationship between the 3 persons.
